Spiritual Life
The School's Mission, to develop each person's full potential, is very much lived out through the spiritual life at Marymount. Founded by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary (RSHM), the spirit and ethos of the RSHM permeate the School campus. Throughout the year events, retreats, and opportunities for reflection take place to provide students and staff the time to deepen their spiritual lives and their relationship with God.
At Marymount all religions are accepted and respected, and students are encouraged to share aspects of their faith with each other so that all may learn from one another.
Students are encouraged to live out their faith through our strong Community and Service Programme, through their leadership within the school and through the care they show to each member of our school community.
The Chapel is open all day to students and staff for times of quiet reflection and prayer and a Prayer Group meets together once a week.

Throughout the year students and staff gather for Grade Masses and whole school liturgical celebrations. Students are invited to help plan and prepare for these celebrations in various ways. There are many other opportunities for students to grow in their spiritual lives; recently some Grade 9 students learned about the life and spirituality of St. Thérèse of Lisieux during a day at The Friars, Aylesford.
The Boarding Community, along with neighbours from the local area, join together each Sunday during term time to celebrate Mass with our Chaplain, Fr. Michael Hayes. The students are involved in particular ways in the preparation and celebration of the Liturgy through reading, singing, serving and being Eucharistic Ministers.
The history of the RSHM in relation to the School is studied and celebrated each year and students have the opportunity to learn more about the current work of the RSHM throughout the world. Each year students fundraise for a RSHM Mission in Africa, most recently helping raise money for the water sanitization project in Zambia (2009) and the refurbishment of a study centre in Mozambique (2010).
The annual retreat programme is an important part of Marymount’s spiritual life. Each Grade shares a day retreat together at a centre in Roehampton, Woking or Aylesford. On retreat the students have time to reflect on the school’s goal for the year, their relationships with others and their relationship with God, through activities and times of prayer. |
