Marymount Ski/ Snow Boarding Trip to Leysin, Swiss Alps – February 2010
“LEYSIN – OXYGENE DES ALPES”
This year, 24 students (6th – 11th Graders) & their 3 teachers, set out on a week’s skiing/ snowboarding in the Swiss Alps in the picturesque village of Leysin. It was a very early morning start for us all leaving Marymount at 4am! The students could hardly sleep the night before with all the excitement of the trip! We flew into Milan followed by a coach trip to reach our ski resort. We travelled through some beautiful scenery.
Leysin is located on a sunny plateau high up in the Swiss Alps which guarantees good snow. It is a charming village with typical old wooden Swiss chalets in the old part of town. The ski area was very extensive with lots of blue runs, some red runs with the odd black run. It was a ski area for all abilities with plenty of snow. It was an ideal choice for Beginner and Intermediate skiers and snowboarders. Everyone on the trip had a wonderful time!
Some of the student comments included:
‘It was challenging and fun!’ (A, Beginner/Intermediate Skiier)
‘It was really fun and the group was quite small so we could learn new skills very quickly and could go fast!’ (L, ‘The Fastest’ Advanced Skiier)
‘It was hard to stay on the board – I fell a lot, but it was sooo much fun!’ (Y, Beginner Snowboarder)
‘Very challenging. Everybody had different abilities, we all improved, and we all reached a high level of snowboarding.’ (S, Intermediate Snowboarder)
