Tennis -
Last weekend, on the 23rd and the 24th of April, Marymount hosted the first annual ISSA Varsity Tennis and Badminton Tournaments, with visiting teams from Aberdeen International School, Saint Dominic’s International School, Deutsche Schule, ACS Egham and Southbank International.
The Tennis Tournament was played at Sutton Tennis Academy and we were lucky enough to have perfect tennis weather for the two days of competition. All three Marymount athletes played incredibly well over the two days of the tournament and should be congratulated for their achievements. Our Grade 11 singles player played 4 matches on Friday and won all of these but unfortunately narrowly lost the grand final in a one set match on Saturday. Our Grade 9 and 10 contestants teamed up for the women’s doubles and were undefeated throughout the whole tournament, including a match against the ACS Egham’s boys’ doubles team, and easily won their grand final match 6-1.
Badminton -
As an all-girls school, we were only able to participate in women’s singles and doubles. We had one student in the singles tournament, two in the doubles.
On the first day, we played matches against all of the other schools to decide our ranking in the tournament on the second day. Both our singles player and doubles pair successfully beat everyone during this first stage of competition. Therefore, we were seeded first for the knockout tournament on the second day. Marymount successfully progressed through to the finals where we faced Southbank International School in both the singles and doubles matches.
Although Southbank seemed have improved through the tournament, our skills and confidence exceeded theirs, and so we successfully became undefeated champions for both singles and doubles: the score was 21 – 7 for singles and 21 – 15 for doubles.
Congratulations to the Aces - the ISSA Champions!
