The Grade 7 trip to Parliament was fascinating and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We were greeted by the golden walls, incredible statues, and amazing paintings. We visited the House of Lords, watched MPs debate in the House of Commons, and saw the only remaining part of the original Palace of Westminster. We saw the “Votes for Women” scarf that Emily Davidson tried to drape over the King’s horse at the Grand National and the gates where female protesters chained themselves in support of the right to vote. My favourite part of the day was our workshop at the end of the tour. We got into groups and watched a 360 degree video about the Suffragettes. Then we discussed actions we can take to bring the People’s concerns to Parliament, such as petition, social media, and lobbying. The trip has truly left an unforgettable impression on me. I am truly grateful that I got to go.
