My name is Uxue and I am a Grade 12 student and President of the Student Council for the academic year 2024-2025. It is my great pleasure to welcome all of you: families, staff, current students, and in particular, our new Marymount students.
Many of you are beginning an exciting new journey by joining Marymount, and like most new things, you and your families might feel nervous about how you will adjust. But don’t worry, we have all been there. I remember my first day too, and I want to reassure you that as part of the Marymount family, you’ll thrive and make amazing memories.
In 2017, I made the big move from Spain to the UK, and a year later I began my journey at Marymount. As a 10-year-old, I found this transition nerve-wracking, however, I was unaware of the profound five-year experience I was soon to embark on. I was pretty nervous about fitting in, especially since I was still learning English. But Marymount’s diverse community, with students from 48 different nationalities, welcomed me with open arms.
At Marymount, we celebrate internationalism through different special occasions. For example: International Day where students showcase their cultures through performances. It’s a highlight of the year and a great way to connect with others from your own nationality, just like I did with my Spanish friends. It also reflects one of our School Goals of “unity through diversity”.
Marymount is all about building lasting friendships. You can make friends across different grades through extra-curricular activities such as sports, RSHM festivals, school productions, and trips. Personally, I bonded with high school students through sporting activities such as football and tennis. Beyond sports, activities like the Model United Nations Festival have allowed me to connect with Middle Schoolers and students from other RSHM schools. These connections helped me find my place in our community, and I promise your daughter will experience the same.
Friendships are not the only connection made at Marymount. Our teachers and staff are amazing and always there to support you academically and personally. With small class sizes, you’ll get to know your teachers well, and they’ll understand you as an individual.
I can reassure you Marymount is a place where your daughter will grow and flourish. She’ll become a Marymount girl—generous, hardworking, and caring.
