Fostering relationships and building independence
At the heart of our boarding programme is the commitment to fostering relationships and promoting independence. Boarding enables students to form connections with peers from diverse backgrounds and experiences, creating a rich multicultural environment. The boarding house is not only a place of residence but also a supportive community where students learn vital life skills such as communication, time management, and resilience.
In addition to social development, boarding encourages independence. Students are entrusted with managing their time, making decisions, and taking responsibility for their daily routines, all while receiving support and guidance from staff. This approach prepares them for future academic and personal challenges.
Boarding Wellbeing Programme: Education beyond the classroom
Our boarding wellbeing programme complements the formal curriculum, providing students with essential life skills that extend beyond the classroom:
- Cooking Classes: Last term’s cooking classes were a highlight. Students learned to prepare delicious and nutritious dishes, including sushi, fresh pasta, and a variety of baked goods. Beyond culinary skills, students gained confidence in the kitchen and enjoyed the fruits of their labour.
- Personal Safety: A visit from a local police liaison officer reinforced the importance of personal safety. Students were given practical advice on online security, staying safe in public spaces, and managing personal risk.
Boarding Committees: Leadership and Service
Our boarders have also embraced opportunities to give back to the community and take on leadership roles through various boarding committees:
- Boarding Council: The Boarding Council has played an instrumental role in organizing activities and fostering a sense of community. One of their standout initiatives has been the “Big Sister” programme, which pairs older students with younger ones, promoting mentorship and connection.
- Boarding Fundraising Committee: The Fundraising Committee has demonstrated remarkable dedication to charitable causes. This term, students hosted several cooking sales, raising funds through the sale of homemade treats to support meaningful causes. Their commitment to service and community is truly commendable.
The knitting group’s efforts have also been noteworthy. Students have created handmade items such as hats and blankets for the Born Too Soon neonatal unit at a local hospital, demonstrating the spirit of generosity and care that defines our boarding community.
Festive cheer and a busy Christmas season
As the Christmas season approached, our boarders enjoyed a range of festive activities, embracing the holiday spirit:
- Gingerbread House Competition: Students showcased their creativity in a friendly competition to build the most impressive gingerbread house.
- Christmas Lights Tour: Students had a magical experience visiting the Christmas lights around town and the festive displays at Wisley Gardens.
- Ice Skating: A trip to the rink at Hampton Court Palace offered a fun and active way to celebrate the season with friends.
- Tree Decorating: On campus, students gathered to decorate the Christmas tree, sharing the joy of the holiday season.
Looking ahead to the next term

We eagerly anticipate a second term filled with more exciting activities, continued personal growth, and further opportunities for community involvement. It is clear that this year’s boarding community is thriving, and we look forward to all that the new term will bring.
