Marymount: A School where I can be ME

Hi, I’m Amy – President of the National Honor Society and a proud Marymount girl. For me, being part of this school isn’t just about academics or the activities on offer (though they are amazing). It is about community, growth, and finding your place in a world that’s bigger than just you.

When I arrived in Grade 9, I’d already lived in the Bahamas, Guatemala and Spain – this is my eighth school! But Marymount felt different. I settled in quickly, because being an international school means most people here just get it. They have lived in multiple places, speak different languages, and bring a wealth of experience. We celebrate over 30 nationalities and we don’t just coexist – we learn from each other. That kind of connection – it’s rare.

One of the main reasons I chose Marymount was the International Baccalaureate. As someone who genuinely enjoys everything from Maths to Music, I wasn’t ready to narrow down my subjects. The IB lets you stay broad, studying six subjects while learning to think independently and critically. It’s holistic, it’s rigorous, and it’s taught me how to mange my time, think globally, and explore topics with depth and curiosity.

But Marymount is more than just what happens in the classroom. It’s the stage crew of The Little Mermaid, where I found friends in every Grade. It’s the leadership roles – from National Honor Society to Student Council to Inclusion Diversity Equity and Anti-Racism Committee – where you can step up and create change, even if you’ve only just joined the community. It’s about being part of something that matters.

In the last two years, I’ve learned what true community looks like. I have learned how to serve others through work with organisations like Refugee Action Kingston. I have found teachers who genuinely care, who listen, and who champion each student’s unique journey.

To be a Marymount girl is to grow with confidence, to lead with compassion, and to love learning – for life. Honestly, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else!
