In Her Own Words
What inspired your interest in these fields?
My entire family is in the healthcare space, including professors of medicine, healthcare system advisors, hospital and university founders, pharmacists, and leaders of major insurers. I grew up surrounded by science and healthcare, and was taught to serve and work to improve the lives of patients at scale.
What is a project, innovation, or piece of work you’re most proud of?
Co-founding The Right Healthcare, working to address the women’s healthcare gap, given that across 770 diseases, women are diagnosed on average four years later than men. I created a coalition of twenty leaders across fifteen institutions in seven different countries to advance science for the benefit of women’s health.
I had the massive honour of sharing actionable and informative life-saving insights by publishing a book, “Healthy No Matter What: How Humans are Hardwired to Adapt”, with Penguin Random House, as well as a related article for TIME Magazine.
How did Marymount influence your interest in STEAM?
Ms Holland nurtured our curiosity and made learning biology really fun and memorable. I still remember many of her lessons and could possibly do decently well on the exam if I had to sit it again all these years later!
Were there any teachers, activities, or moments that shaped your journey?
All of our teachers were so committed and caring. Many would stay with us even over the weekends, patiently explaining concepts, debating with us and answering all our questions. It was absolutely clear that they wanted to see us succeed, and they shared in our joys.
What advice would you give to current Marymount students interested in STEAM?
Stay curious, ask questions, and keep learning. Be active and relentless in your pursuit of new knowledge.
What’s one thing you wish you had known when you were in school?
It flies by, and you will miss it. Many of us still reminisce about our time at Marymount and wish we could go back. As challenging, scary and stressful as it is, it will be one of the most special moments in your life. I didn’t know it while I was in it. I wish I had savoured it more.
