Our Assessment Process - Marymount International School London

Our Assessment Process

At Marymount International School London, we believe that every girl who walks through our door brings with her a unique blend of gifts, talents and potential.  Our commitment to education begins at the very first step:  the assessment process.

We take a holistic yet rigorous approach to admissions, designed to uncover the distinctive strengths of each applicant.  Our goal is not simply to assess academic ability, but to gain an understanding of the whole student – her passions, her potential and her capacity to thrive within our learning community. Our assessment process is student-centred and high-quality, reflecting  our core values of care, curiosity and excellence.  At every stage, we work collaboratively with parents, building a relationship built on trust and transparency.

Importantly, we only offer places to those girls for whom we genuinely believe Marymount is the right fit – a nurturing environment where they will flourish both academically and personally.

Grade 6 entry – Middle Years Programme (MYP)

Girls applying for Grade 6, (equivalent to UK Year 7) who are based in the UK are invited to attend an assessment day in the November prior to entry.  During the day, girls will undertake: an online aptitude test (numerical skills, verbal and non-verbal reasoning); some small group activities; an individual interview.

Assessment Day for Grade 6 (Year 7) entry September 2026 will take place on Friday 14 November 2025.

Girls applying after the main assessment day, or those based overseas, will take written tests in Maths and English, and will have an individual interview (online or in person), subject to availability of places.

Grade 7 to Grade 10 entry – Middle Years Programme (MYP)

For girls seeking entry to Grades 7 – 10 (equivalent to UK Years 8 – 11), assessments take place on a rolling basis throughout the year.  Applicants will take written tests in Maths and English, and will have an individual interview with a senior member of our academic team and the MYP Coordinator. (online or in person).

Grade 11 entry – The IB Diploma Programme (IBDP)

Girls wishing to undertake the two-year IB Diploma Programme are assessed for entry into Grade 11 (equivalent to UK Year 12).  Applications will take written tests in Maths and English and will have an individual interview with the IBDP Coordinator.

We will only consider entry to Grade 12, the second year of the IBDP, if the student is already in the IBDP and provided we are able to offer the subject timetable they are already undertaking.  Applications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

We will also request a reference from the student’s current school for all entry grades.
