On behalf of everyone at Marymount, I would like to extend a warm welcome to the Marymount community.  I am delighted that you are joining us, and we look forward to building a close and collaborative relationship with you as your daughter journeys through this next stage of her educational career with us.

We hope that your daughter will grow and flourish at Marymount, not only through our academic programmes, but also within a supportive and caring community that will encourage her to realise her potential in all areas and prepare her to take up her place in the world beyond Marymount as a capable, confident and compassionate global citizen.

Below, you will find all the important information that you need to prepare your daughter for her transition to Marymount, as well as other key information that will help you navigate her time at the School.

If there is any further information that you might require that you cannot find here, please reach out to our Admissions team in the first instance and they will be pleased to assist or direct you to someone who can.

Student Devices and IT Set-Up

Marymount is a digital learning environment, and all students therefore require a personal laptop device, which should meet the following specification:

  • Processor: Intel Core i5 (or equivalent)
  • Memory: 16GB RAM minimum (16GB RAM recommended)
  • Storage: 128GB minimum (256GB recommended)
  • Operating System: Windows 11 or MacOS Sonoma

(please note that Android, iPad, Chromebook or Linux systems are not suitable)

To ensure the device remains efficient for future applications, we recommend a laptop with:

  • Memory: 16GB RAM
  • Operating System: Windows 11 or MacOS Sonoma
  • Storage: 256GB

The School will provide Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud applications for installation on your daughter’s device.

Marymount implements Smoothwall digital safeguarding software to ensure that students are safe online when in school. We advise that parents check the parental settings on the device to ensure it restricts inappropriate content when used outside of school.  Blocking pop-ups will also help to prevent your daughter accessing content that is inappropriate for their age.

The following guides will introduce you and your daughter to the various IT platforms that we use at Marymount, and provide you with instructions on how to set up your daughter’s device before she arrives, so that she is ready to access her digital learning from day one.

Child Student Visa Application Process (Boarding Students)

As a UKVI Sponsor, Marymount International School is subject to stringent Home Office regulations relating to the sponsorship of non-British passport holders and ongoing immigration compliance for the duration of their time at the School.  These regulations are complex and subject to regular variation.

To ensure that all international applications to the School meet these regulations, and to give you peace of mind that your daughter’s visa will be granted, we, like many other schools, have engaged the services of immigration specialists, Sable International, to manage our CAS and ongoing visa compliance process.  Sable has been providing immigration services for more than 30 years and is regulated by the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner. Further information about Sable International may be found here: https://www.sableinternational.com/education

It is a requirement of entry to Marymount that all Child Student visa applications are administered by Sable International on behalf of the School.

Following the acceptance of your daughter’s place at Marymount and settlement of the first year’s fee invoice, we will put you in touch with your Sable International visa consultant, who will guide you through the visa application process.  They will check that you have all the correct supporting documentation required, before issuing the CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) on our behalf, and will assist you with preparation of your visa application.

To enable them to issue the CAS, we will provide them with the following information:

  • Student Name
  • Student Date of Birth
  • Student Gender
  • Student Passport No.
  • Student Nationality
  • Parent names, addresses and email contact details
  • Details of the course of study

Data will be shared in accordance with the School’s Privacy Policy.

Please note that we will not instruct Sable to issue the CAS until full payment of fees for academic year 2025/26 has been received.  Invoices will be sent in early May, and we encourage you to settle your fee account promptly in order that your daughter’s visa application can commence as soon as possible, bearing in mind that visa applications can take up to 12 weeks.

A fee of £583 will be charged to cover the cost of the CAS, preparation of the visa application and ongoing compliance for the duration of your daughter’s visa. This will be added to your first school fee account.  This fee does not include the cost of the visa or other associated costs where applicable (e.g.immigration health surcharge, tuberculosis test, priority processing fee) which you will need to pay on submission of your visa application.

If you have any questions regarding the above, please don’t hesitate to contact the Admissions team at admissions@marymountlondon.com

Educational Guardianship (Boarding Students)

At Marymount, looking after our students in a caring, nurturing and safe environment is at the heart of all that we do. In alignment with current UKVI regulations, the School’s Safeguarding Policy and the recommendations of the Boarding Schools’ Association (BSA), Marymount requires that parents living abroad (or travelling regularly outside the UK) appoint a UK-based educational guardian for the duration of their daughter’s time at the School (including students over the age of 18).

Your daughter must have a guardian in place by the time she arrives at Marymount in order to commence boarding.  If your daughter requires a Child Student Visa to study in the UK, you will need to appoint a guardian in advance of the visa being issued.

What is an Educational Guardian?

An educational guardian is a responsible adult appointed and authorized by the parent(s) to assume various roles/responsibilities relating to their daughter, and to make important decisions on the student’s behalf in the parent(s) absence.

The Role of the Educational Guardian

As outlined in the Guardianship Agreement, the educational guardian may be required to assume a variety of roles throughout the school year, including, but not limited to:

  • providing practical and emotional support for your daughter while she is at school
  • overseeing travel arrangements at the start and end of each term
  • providing accommodation during school holiday periods or during other absences from School
  • undertaking responsibilities of a more significant nature related to the student’s safeguarding and wellbeing, when contact between the School and the parent(s) cannot be made in a timely manner.

The guardian acts on behalf of the parent(s), to the extent that roles and responsibilities have been formally delegated and agreed; the specific arrangements between these two parties may be tailored to meet individual family circumstances and School requirements.

Selection and Appointment of an Educational Guardian

Responsibility for selection and appointment of an educational guardian rests solely with the family.  However, in accordance with current UKVI regulations and the School’s safeguarding requirements, the educational guardian must fulfil the following criteria:

  • they may only be a close relative, trusted family friend, or appointed through an AEGIS-accredited guardianship organisation.*
  • they must be over the age of 25, and not in full-time education
  • they must be a British citizen or have Settled Status in the UK
  • they must be a fluent English speaker
  • they must live no more than a 2-hour drive from the School and be easily contactable in the event of an emergency

* AEGIS (The Association for the Education and Guardianship of International Students) -accredited guardians and their host families are subject to stringent checks and regulations, including Enhanced DBS checks,  home inspections and insurance requirements and are highly experienced in providing guardianship services. A full list of Gold Standard AEGIS guardians can be found here:

AEGIS Accredited Guardianship Organisations

Questions to consider when selecting an educational guardian:

  • Can the guardian provide appropriate emotional and practical support for your daughter, during her time at school?
  • Are you comfortable granting the guardian responsibility for the exchange of sensitive or urgent information about your daughter, if required?
  • Is the guardian able and willing to provide accommodation for your daughter (planned and at short notice) as well as safe travel arrangements?  Are you happy with the accommodation provided?
  • Is the guardian able to reach Marymount in two hours or less, in the event of an emergency affecting your daughter

Both parties (parent and educational guardian), will be required to complete and sign a Guardianship Agreement, provided by the School, prior to your daughter’s arrival at Marymount.

The nominated guardian will be assessed by the School to ensure compliance with UKVI requirements and National Minimum Standards for Boarding Schools. This assessment will include an identity check and a proof of address check. The School reserves the right to request an alternative guardian should it consider that the nominated guardian does not satisfy the criteria indicated above, or is unable to satisfactorily meet the requirements of the role.

Parents must inform the School in advance regarding any proposed change of educational guardian so that the appropriate checks, as outlined above, can be completed. A new Guardianship Agreement must be completed.

Right to Study Checks (All New Pupils)

In common with all UK independent schools who welcome international students, we are required by the Home Office to verify Right to Study in the UK for ALL pupils, regardless of nationality, before they are admitted to the School

We will therefore require you to provide the following documents on or before your daughter’s first day at Marymount.  We will not be able to admit your daughter to the School until all relevant documentation has been checked.

  • Passport (all students): we are required to see the original passport for all new student’s joining the School.  This can be presented either on induction day, or on the first day of term.
  • Parent’s passport: (for student’s on a Dependant visa): if your daughter has been granted Leave to Remain in the UK as a dependant of a migrant worker or investor, we require sight of the parent’s original passport.  This can be presented either on induction day or on the first day of term.
  • Proof of immigration status (non-UK passport holders/EU citizens with Pre-settled or Settled status: once your daughter’s visa has been granted, you will be able to download a Sharecode, which must be provided to the Admissions team to enable them to confirm her immigration status.
  • Proof of parent’s immigration status (for student’s on a Dependant visa): if your daughter has been granted Leave to Remain in the UK as a dependant of a migrant work or investor, we require a Sharecode, which must be provided to the Admissions team to enable them to confirm the parent’s immigration status.

You can obtain a Sharecode here: GET A SHARECODE

Our in-house catering team provide a wide variety of healthy food options.  Lunch is served in the Dining Hall for all students, and there is always plenty of choice including a vegetarian option, hot soup, a range of salads and fresh fruit alongside the daily main course and dessert.  A savoury morning snack is also provided, and a sweet afternoon snack is available for those students who have an extra-curricular activity after school.  Students may bring their own snacks; however, they must be nut-free.  In addition to lunch, boarding students are also provided with breakfast, dinner and a late snack.

Mobile phones and other devices

Electronic devices, including but not limited to mobile phones, iPads and laptops, may only be used during the school day if permission has been granted by a staff member.

  • Day students in Grades 6 – 10 must hand in their mobile phone to Reception on arrival to school and may collect it as they leave the campus.
  • Boarders in Grades 6 – 10 should leave their mobile phones in their rooms during the school day.
  • Students in Grades 11 and 12 may use their mobile phone in designated areas.

The use of devices is not permitted in the Dining Hall, and mobile phones are not permitted in the library.

Houses

All students and staff are assigned to one of the four school Houses:

  • St Constance (Yellow)
  • St Jean (Blue)
  • St Felix (Red)
  • St Croix (Green)

You will be advised of your daughter’s house in advance of her joining, as you will require this information when purchasing uniform.  Where there is a family affiliation to a particular House (sibling, alumna) we will allocate your daughter to the family House.

Extra-curricular activities

Marymount offers a range of extra-curricular activities, including:

  • Sports
  • Dance
  • Drama
  • Art
  • Writer’s Circle
  • Orchestra
  • Choir
  • Science Club
  • Model United Nations
  • National Honor Society (High School only)
  • Medical Society (High School only)

If your daughter has a particular interest in a club or activity that is not currently offered, she should speak to her Head of Year and we will see if it can be facilitated.

Sport

There are a wide variety of sports activities to choose from, including:

  • Cross Country
  • Football
  • Volleyball
  • Basketball
  • Badminton
  • Tennis

We have flexibility to support other sports too, so please do speak to Ms Morgan, our Chair of Physical Health Education, if there is a particular sport your daughter would like to participate in.

Health and Wellbeing

Our School Nurse is available on campus each weekday from 8.00am to 5.00pm.  She is located in the St Joseph’s building, and handles all day-to-day medical issues, administration of medication, and management of known medical conditions.

All students are entitled to NHS healthcare whilst studying at Marymount.   For UK-based students, it is the responsibility of the parents to register their daughter with a local GP.  Our international 7-Day boarding students will be registered with The Groves Medical Practice by the School Nurse.

Our Deputy Head Pastoral, and Designated Safeguarding Lead, Ms Annah Langan, is available to support any student who may have a concern regarding their physical or mental wellbeing, or if they consider that they or another student may be at risk of harm.  Alternatively, they may contact our School Counsellor at counsellor@marymountlondon.com

We must receive a completed medical form prior to your daughter starting at the School, in order that we can ensure that the appropriate care can be put in place in the event of a particular medical condition or emergency.   We are unable to admit your daughter until the medical form has been received.

Spiritual Life

All students and staff have access to our chapel and a dedicated multi-faith prayer space.  allowing all members of our community the opportunity to reflect and observe their beliefs. As a Catholic school, we celebrate the key Christian festivals throughout the year, whilst also acknowledging other international cultural and religious festivals in accordance with the diversity of our community. Each Grade will also attend an annual Retreat Day, an opportunity for the girls to connect with each other and reflect on their personal growth.

Communications

We acknowledge that our parents have busy lives, and we attempt to keep communications streamlined and succinct.  Our main communication bulletins will be sent to you each Friday, so please keep an eye out for these to ensure you don’t miss any important dates or information.

For day-to-day communications with our students, we have a Student Intranet (MINT), where we post key information including room changes, special events, fundraising opportunities, free-dress dates and the weekly menu.

SchoolsBuddy

SchoolsBuddy is our online booking platform for events, trips, extra-curricular activities and Parent/Teacher conferences.  You will be sent details of how to activtate your individual SchoolsBuddy account once your daughter has started with us.

Absence Procedure

  • Absence due to illness
If your daughter is absent due to illness, please notify the School Office at studentabsence@marymountlondon.com by 8.25am on the first day of absence, and each subsequent day that she is out of school.   If the illness is prolonged, you should please provide a medical note stating the anticipated period of absence. If your daughter is absent as a result of an infectious disease, please also notify the School Nurse at nurse@marymountlondon.com, as soon as this has been diagnosed.
  • Other absence
Any other requests for absence during term-time should be addressed to the Headmistress,  well in advance of the date in question.  Please note the term dates (available on the website) to ensure that holidays are not booked during term time.   Likewise, for our international students, we strongly discourage late arrival/early departure at the start and end of term.  Child Student Visa holders in particular should be aware that persistent late arrivals/early departures will adversely affect your daughter’s attendance rates and could contravene the conditions of her visa.    Attendance at school correlates strongly with many positive educational outcomes and therefore permission for absence from School at any time will only be given for exceptional and unavoidable reasons.

Boarding - Principles and Aims

Welcome to Boarding!

We are so pleased to welcome your daughter to the Marymount boarding community.  This may well be her first time living away from home and it is natural that she may be feeling a little nervous.  Please rest assured that our dedicated and friendly boarding team are here to help her settle in, feel at home and find her feet.

Our Guiding Principles

At Marymount, we are committed to the holistic care of every student.  We provide a safe, supportive environment where girls are encouraged to grow into confident, compassionate and independent young women. We strive to build a strong community, founded on mutual respect, equal opportunity and shared responsibility, where everyone – students and staff alike – works together to uphold the wellbeing of all.

Our boarding life is rooted in values that shape how we live together, care for one another, and grow as a community. These principles aren’t just rules—they’re the heart of our everyday life at Marymount:

  • Respect and Courtesy: Every member of our community is treated with kindness and dignity.  We respect each other’s privacy, boundaries and personal space.

  • Voice and Inclusion: Everyone has a voice that matters.   member of our community has the right to be heard. We listen with empathy and speak with integrity, embracing and learning from our differences in culture, background and belief.

  • Safety and Protection: Creating a secure and supportive environment is a shared responsibility.  We look out for each other, ensuring that no one feels unsafe, neglected or alone.

  • Unity in Diversity: At Marymount, we celebrate the richness of our international community. Our diversity strengthens us, and our shared experiences help us grow into compassionate global citizens.

Our Aims

Our boarding program is designed to nurture each student’s academic, emotional, and personal development. We aim to:

  • Foster an atmosphere of trust, care, and mutual respect.

  • Encourage openness, tolerance, and the confidence to dream big.

  • Promote kindness and ensure that bullying of any kind has no place here.

  • Create a comfortable and relaxing home environment suited to students’ age and maturity.

  • Inspire teamwork, shared responsibility, and a strong sense of community.

  • Support every girl in becoming the best version of herself—confident, capable, and ready to make a positive impact.

Boarding - The First Day

Arriving on Campus

When you arrive, you will be met by your Houseparents and some of our current boarding students.  They will show you to your room and provide you with a tour of your Boarding Hall.  You will then have time to unpack and meet the other students.

You will be asked to hand in the following for safekeeping:

  • your passport – we will store your passport safely in the Boarding Office, with your signed permission.  You will then be able to sign your passport out when needed for holidays, weekend trips etc.
  • any cash you have with you (over £50) – this will be held in the School Bank for security
  • all medication –  all medication (prescription or over-the-counter)  must be handed in to the School Nurse on arrival.  You may not keep any medication in your room.

On arrival you will receive a wristband and a padlock for the lockable drawers in your room.  The wristband gives you access to your Hall and your room.

Once all practical matters have been attended to, you will attend an Induction Programme, which has been prepared by the Boarding team to help you settle in and find your feet.

Boarding - The Practicalities

Where will I live?

There are three Boarding Halls:

  • Butler
  • Gailhac
  • St Joseph’s

You will have a room in one of these halls, based on your Grade.  Typically, you will share a room with one or more boarders.  Your room will have a bed, wardrobe, desk, shelving unit and noticeboard.  You may personalise your noticeboard with pictures of your family and friends. You will have access to shared bathrooms and showers.

To help you settle in, we will allocate you a ‘Big Sister’, an older boarding student who will support you as you get used to your ‘home away from home’.

Sharing a Room

This may be the first time that you have shared a room with someone.  We understand that this can be an adjustment and offer the following tips for ensuring a happy and healthy relationship with your roommate(s):

  • Be considerate of your roommate and the Housekeeping team and keep your space tidy.
  • Please ask before you stick anything to the walls, so we can make sure there is not damage.
  • If you want to listen to music, check with your roommate to make sure she doesn’t mind.  We always recommend you to use your headphones.
  • No hot food is allowed in your room.
  • It is completely normal that you and/or your roommate might feel a bit homesick now and then, particularly in the early weeks.  Try to support each other and cheer each other up, but also allow each other space.

Languages on Campus

Marymount is a wonderfully diverse community with students from many nationalities.  When you are in School, we ask that you speak English to one another.  This may be difficult at first, but practice makes perfect, and will help you develop your language skills and ensure that everyone feels comfortable.

Laundry and Linen

You are required to wash your linen and towels at least once a week.  The Laundry Room opens at 7.00am and closes at 10.00pm each day.  Each Hall has designated laundry days and times.

The Housekeeping team will wash and iron your school shirts and can also arrange to have your blazer cleaned at a small cost.

Please ensure that all your linen and clothing items are clearly labelled.

Meals

Our catering team provide a wide variety of delicious, healthy food choices.  In addition to nutritious and tasty main meal choices, there are always a range of fresh salads, hot soup and plenty of fresh fruit available.

If, on occasion, you would like to prepare your own food in the Lounge, you are welcome to do so, as long as you register first in the Dining Hall.  The Lounge has a fridge, microwave and hob.  Dry food may be kept in an airtight container in your room.

Out of care and consideration for students and staff with serious nut allergies, Marymount follows a strict ‘no nut’ policy.  This includes nut milks, such as almond milk, and nut spreads such as Nutella.

You may order take-out on the weekends, during the following times:

  • Friday: 5.00pm – 8.30pm
  • Saturday and Sunday:  12.00pm – 8.30pm

The Security guard on duty will receive your order and you can pick it up from the Boarding Office.  Please do not go to the gate yourself.  Food must be eaten in the Lounges or Dining Hall.

Supervised Study

Study is a time for you to complete your homework, work on projects or revise.

Grades 6 – 10: Supervised study takes place every weekday.  You may choose to attend either Early Study (4.45pm – 6.00pm) or Late Study (7.00pm – 8.15pm).  Study sessions will take place in the Gailhac classrooms.

All devices, including mobile phones, tablets, laptops and headphones, are discouraged during weekday meal times.  These rules are relaxed at the weekend.

Medical Matters

Medication:

We adhere to the UK regulations on medication in Schools.  On arrival all medication must be handed in to the Houseparents.  All prescribed medication must be in the original packaging, marked with the student’s name and accompanied by a prescription (in English).  If this is not present, we may not be permitted to administer the medication until the School Nurse has made all the necessary checks.

Please be advised that not all medicines are licensed for use in the UK.  Please make your own enquiries prior to arrival.

Medication can be taken at breakfast or in the evening (administered by the Houseparent), or by the Nurse during the School day.  If the School Nurse is unavailable, prescribed medication and other medication such as Paracetamol and Ibuprofen, will be available from the Boarding Office.

Weekend Activities

A variety of activities are offered throughout the year, both on and off campus.  These may include:

  • visits to theme parks
  • West End theatre trips
  • visits to museums and cultural visits
  • indoor climbing
  • ice-skating
  • walks in local parks
  • baking
  • art
  • knitting
  • murder mystery evenings

All trips and costs will be advertised – some will have limited spaces, so make sure you sign up quickly.  Trips will be charged to your School Account.  There will be one mandatory trip per term for students in Grades 6-9.

Boarding - Holidays and Time Off Campus

School Holidays

Boarding is closed during the following School holiday periods:

  • October half-term
  • Christmas break
  • February half-term
  • Easter break
  • Summer holidays

During these times you may return home, stay with your Guardian, or stay with a friend.  Parental confirmation of arrangements is required for all periods away from School.

Holiday dates are published a year in advance, and can be found on the School website.  Please ensure that flights are booked to coincide with the published term dates.  We do not authorise early departures or late arrivals, except in exceptional circumstances.  Any request for special consideration must be made by the parents to the Headmistress at: studentabsence@marymountlondon.com

If you are on a Child Student Visa, we are required by UKVI to collect the following information for all periods of time that you are away from school, whether in or outside the UK:

Outbound:

  • flight details (flight number, departure airport, departure time)
  • name and contact details of who will collect you from school and how you will travel to the airport
  • if you are not departing the UK immediately, or if you are remaining in the UK with your parent or guardian for the holiday period:  address of where you will be staying and name and contact details of the adult you will be staying with.

Inbound:

  • flight details (flight number, arrival airport, arrival time)
  • name and contact details of who will collect you from the airport and return you to school
  • if you are not returning straight to school on arrival in the UK: address of where you will be staying and name and contact details of the adult you will be staying with.

if your travel arrangements require you to arrive or depart early in the morning or late at night, you will be asked to stay with your Guardian, to minimise disruption in the Boarding Halls.

Parental Permissions for Time Off Campus

All time off campus for non-School related activities must be authorised by your parents.  This includes after-school or weekend short trips into Kingston or London, as well as occasional mid-week or weekend visits to your parents or guardian, and all trips home for the holidays.

For all visits off campus, we will require details of who you are visiting, where you will be staying and a contact telephone number of the adult who is responsible for you.

Booking Taxis

Taxis can be booked at the Boarding Reception and paid for through your School Account.  Advance reservations for taxis are recommended, especially at busy travel times, to ensure you arrive at your destination in time.

Please note:  Uber and other rideshare companies are NOT AUTHORISED as we have no contact details should a problem arise.

Marymount Parents' Association

All new families are automatically enrolled as members of the Marymount Parents’ Association, through which the School maintains a close and collaborative relationship with our parent body.  The Parents’ Association exists to encourage a sense of community, support fundraising for key School initiatives and promote philanthropy to further the aims of the School and support the students.  Assisted by a group of 14 volunteer Parent Community Grade Representatives (2 from each Grade 6 – 12), the Parents Association runs a number of events throughout the year, including:

  • The Parent Association Summer BBQ – Held on the Saturday prior to the start of the new school year, this is a wonderful opportunity to meet fellow parents and staff before the girls start school. This is an event for the whole family, so feel free to bring siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents to enjoy an afternoon of fun, food and friendship!
  • Christmas Fair – an annual event for students, run by parent volunteers, with lots of fun Christmas activities, games and food stalls.
  • Careers Fair – an event for girls in Grades 9 – 11,  held in the first semester and coordinated by the School College Counsellor.  The Parent Community recruit parents to attend the event and talk about their careers.
  • Parents Association Meetings – currently held termly, an opportunity for parents to meet over coffee and receive and discuss news updates from the School, and the Parent Community.  Each meeting will also feature a guest speaker, who may be an external speaker, a member of staff, or an alumna.

Your Grade Representatives are also a valuable source of support and information as you navigate your daughter’s first year at Marymount.  Please feel free to reach out to them with any general questions you may have about school life.  You will be sent the names and contact details of your Grade Reps at the start of term in September.

If you would be interested in becoming a Grade Representative, or in getting involved with community and fundraising activities in any other capacity, please contact Karin Purcell, our Philanthropy and Community Engagement Manager at purcellk@marymountlondon.com,
